Hello! We talk about inVision Studio — version 1.28.2 ?

This is really bad news for me, i have spent the last 3 years building prototypes using Studio and the rest of the company is now also very used to using these prototypes as part of our business process

So disappointed! This is really the only reason I have a paid account.

Disappointed doesn't begin to describe how our team feels about this. You have given us no time to react to this news as an enterprise customer. Enterprise customers should be informed months ahead so we can plan for this. Why is this news not being given out via sales representatives?

What are your plans for Craft? When will it be sunset?

Studio has the option to promote a project to freehand; will that feature continue to work?

Enterprise customer. Informed before 1 month. Shame for such company.

"Downloaded copies of the Studio app will no longer work" - so I will have no possibility at all to access my prototypes anymore and loose months of work irretrievably? I never ever will use Invision tools again - I simply can not afford to rely on such a company during my work.

My reminder email on 3rd January stated:

Our Support team will not be able to assist with any issues related to Studio, and existing copies of Studio will be "use at your own risk.

My reminder email today (10th January) now states:

After the sunset date, downloaded copies of the Studio app will no longer work.

I simply don't understand how you can think this is OK. Can go back to the first statement and have ongoing access to our local files at least? Or how about at least a months notice for this new change?

I will be transferring multiple prototype projects to another application which becomes much harder if I have to work from image files rather than from studio.

What is the migration path? What software will be able to open .studio files after invision studio is disabled?

This will cause significant pain at my company when we lose years of prototypes across multiple design teams. Most of the other users I've talked to are in a state of disbelief because they have built their entire workflow around invision studio and all of their designs for their entire product exist as .studio files which I assume will become inaccessible in 2 days when you turn off the app. Can you offer a mass export tool so we can get our designs out of this soon-to-be dead format? Exporting canvases one at a time is so tedious it will give you RSI.

I can understand why you would want to end support for the app because it was so unpopular. However, remotely disabling the app with such short notice and deleting our design files off the cloud isn't just careless and insensitive, it feels more like open contempt for your users. This isn't some mobile game, it's a tool that people use to do their job every day. Deprecate it, disconnect it from cloud, end support, but please don't disable the app until your users have had time to migrate to another tool.

Additionally, this post seems to be the only place where this information is available, it isn't mentioned on the "Welcome to Invision Studio" page or anywhere else on the invision homepage, or in the invision app itself. I suspect you have a LOT of users who haven't seen this community post and are going to be very surprised when their app stops working.

Still absolutely no response from InVision here, it's a disgrace. Why the desktop app needs to be disabled i have no idea, and surely you can give us a Bulk Export tool so that we can get all our designs out before you pull the plug.
Not enough time was given to your Users in order to respond to this.
Not enough time is was given from the announcement to the actual Sunset date (any normal, decent, honourable company would give at least 6 months notice if not 12 months for Users to understand, analyse and pivot to new software.

Dreadful experience, clearly no consideration for your user base, Freehand is awful so good luck putting all your eggs in that basket.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and confusion caused by our recent announcement about Studio Sunset. We’ve heard your concerns and have compiled a frequently asked questions (FAQ) page to answer the most common inquiries.

For those of you who need more time to access your Studio data, we are offering extended access to Studio functionality through February 17, 2023, which will enable you to regain access to web prototypes and syncing from Studio. To request this extension and re-enable Studio access, please reach out to us via our Support page.

Hello Kannaa, please advise what Request Type, SUbject and Description we should be entering when contacting 'Support'.

can you also please advise, is there any way of exporting STUDIO files into InVision Prototypes? so that we can still at least use the prototyping function in the short term?

  • Kannaa Chilla

@Phillip Hill-Davis Please use the options mentioned as below for request type. For the subject and description, you can mention "Studio Sunset Extension", and include the emails of the users that will require access & any further details in the description.

  • Monika R.

Hi Phillip Hill-Davis! I'm Monika from the Support team here at InVision. I wanted to apologize once again for any disruption and confusion. I can confirm that our Cloud prototyping functionality will remain functional and is not being deprecated. Although we're sunsetting Studio, you will still be able to use its' full capabilities (including Studio prototyping) until February 17, once an extension has been applied to your account.

I can see that you've reached out to us about it already so please keep an eye out for a reply shortly. We will be happy to answer any further questions you might have via that ticket.

Thanks again for your understanding and patience and I hope you have a great day!

    Monika

thanks Monika, but no im not having a great day, havent had a great couple of weeks to be honest. have had to spend hours in the evenings trying to manually export my designs as SVG files and store them locally, then import them all into Figma, and painstakingly relink/reconnect all of the subtle interactions, animations and everything else that i have already spent hours creating once.

  • Clare Warburton

Build it in Figma ... guess that's the only route now, a bit more notice would have been nice to have esp. as this shut-off happened right before the holiday break ...

I think this is probably the worst news to wake up to.

I've reached out to InVision via Twitter, support ticket, and email and I hope to hear back; doesn't seem likely though.

There are a ton issues with this going down, but just to highlight a few:

    1. A two month notice basically? Are you serious? I went to go open my Invision Studio app and was met with the dreadful pop-up of InVision Studio not being available. They should've had a pop-up MONTHS ago letting users know this was going down because as someone who uses this app EVERY SINGLE DAY and my livelihood is in those files, this is absolutely mortifying and crushing.
    2. No further instructions on migration to another tool either? So YEARS and YEARS of work just GONE and this is something that can't be fixed??
    3. I can't even imagine how huge enterprise level teams with multiple design systems and teams are handling this short-term notice.
    4. There is virtually nothing anywhere else on the InVision website discussing this, no tweets about it either. Seemingly acting as if this is just turning off a plugin or something small when really InVision literally has stripped years of work from many peoples hands.

All in all, to say this was poorly executed by InVision is an understatement.

I hope this message gets read and genuinely gets something to happen because I personally need something to happen and I bet a ton of other people do to.

  • mcampech

I also need something to happen, and I support the comment that there should have been an alert months ago so that one as a user could back up all his work over the years...

I froze when I couldn't open any file, and when from the web my work ceased to exist just like that...

What impotence and frustration you feel, really, they should give us some time to at least rescue something from our effort...

They should at least create a program that just converts the .studio files into a sketch, that alone would help a lot of people who are desperate right now. Lack of respect for companies that used the platform and entrusted one of their most precious assets. I hope not only for myself but for many who are helpless that this message is read and has some effect.

@Kannaa Chilla Your FAQ link is taking me to a broken page. I need to export a file and I can't even open it. I have reached out to support but now I find out it is too late? Just 3 months after the announcement there's no way to even export my file as an SVG?

    4
  • Talal

    How is this reasonable?
Give your customers a way to migrate their .studio files to sketch or allow everyone to download the svg exports.

No reputable company only gives a couple months. I have a web design that is ready to go, and can't access my files!!

hey guys please help me, I have a very important project designed prior when your invision studio was still working, currently I have the project file for invision studio but it is not opening, because I cant sign in my invision studio app (On windows). As soon as I click on sign in button it says , " Invision Studio is no longer available ".

Only if I'm able to open the project file, I would export the assets manually, or ill publish it online (if supported), please help me as it was months of hard work and I rallied on your utility only.
