IBM Product Planning Template

This product planning template was created by the IBM design team to assist cross-functional teams in approaching product planning in a collaborative and unstructured manner. It may be utilized for both new and existing products to establish a shared strategy from the ground up. 

To use this product planning template, follow these steps:

Step 1: Prepare for the session by inviting a diverse range of perspectives, including representatives from all areas of the business.

Step 2: Fill out each section of the pyramid, which visualizes the connections between each aspect of the product plan. Participants may begin anywhere on the pyramid and are not required to follow a specific order. Each section should be completed within the space to the right of the pyramid, either as a group or by assigning sections to individuals.

Step 3: Reflect and iterate as a team by sharing feedback and iterating on the pyramid. Utilize Freehand Reactions to vote on ideas and align within the “Goals” and “Hills” sections. The pyramid should be a flexible, living document that can be refined and referenced as the product development cycle progresses.
