A few feature issues/suggestions - and at least one true bug to report
Since the last update I've noticed SEVERAL workflow issues... maybe unique to me - I'm not sure - as well as a few bugs and I cannot find a place to report them or even email the team to let them know... which is a UX problem in itself!!
Here's a few feature ideas/fixes I'd like to see remedied.. apologies for any harshness, I'm just really really really frustrated by this new version. It's jammed up my workflow and I find nothing helpful about the new design, and if anything, things I did like, are now gone. So here' we go...
- When adding screenshots to a document, they appear in either "Custom", alphabetical, or date UPDATED... why is this...? So for instance... I took my screenshots, in the order I would like them to be seen by a participant...and now I'm adding them by dragging the whole lot onto the screen... and they are uploaded in the opposite order? We used to have it the other way around. Which made sense if you've ever taken screenshots with the intention of having people consume them in a particular order. The default order was date ADDED. "Date Updated" doesn't help because if I update one screen, it goes out of order to the beginning or end (depending on ASC or DSC). It's much easier to have them in order (for the most part) and have a hotspot just bring you to the next page (for the instances where it's that direct)... Alphabetical might help, but that means I have to prefix all my titles with A- B- C-.... who is uploading screens where the order of them makes sense alphabetically? Someone might say, "well the hotspot should point to the correct screen and it's easier to find the screen's name in the list when the list is in alphabetical order" ... ok yeah sure... but considering when the hotspot is set to Hover and Remain on Target Screen is NOT selected, the user can't click the hotspot in the target screen, so it's essentially impossible to mimic hover states without forcing the hover state to persist regardless of the cursor position... not very realistic... What I want to know is why can't I have these screens appear in order of their timestamp? I know the metadata is there... can we not use it? And if I use alphabetical, that might solve for it... but it used to be that things would upload in the right order as I had taken the screen shots.
- Why are sets added to the bottom of the list? I suppose this could make sense chronologically in theory... but when colleagues or business partners or developers come to my document page, I want the most recent set to be at the top. Otherwise they have to scroll to the bottom of the page to see the most recent version / workflow I've built. I liked when I could just create a set by adding, essentially, a page break in my document list.
- Even if I can't do that...fine... or if I can't create sets from within the list of screens (maybe I can but it's not discoverable then...) ... fine... but why is the command to "Add Set" at the bottom of my list. If I have a lot of sets, every time I go to create a new one, I have to scroll to the bottom of the list. Put the command at the top of the list. Like.... I just don't understand how InVision has come up with these very user-unfriendly interactions... am I using this whole applicationwrong??? (btw there's no user error so yes I still blame all this on them hahahaha )
- Speaking of the sets list... when I create a new set it's at the bottom... fine... I'll just drag it to the top. BUT NO, you can't do that, you have to drag it to the second spot, and then drag the first past it to the second spot so your new set is now at the top. Like.... really? cmonnnn. If you can drag something in a list, you should be able to drag it to ANY position... why block from the one position that is probably most likely, if not the bottom position.
- The previews are WAY too small. There is a slider to increase size... but why is there a slider when there are only three settings? 0%, 50%, and 100%. Honestly, you can only double the size of these previews.... and at the largest, on my 28 inch monitor.... I can barely tell the difference between screens. Many times, the difference between them is something so small it's impossible to see what it is without opening up the page. Additionally, you can't rename it once it's full screen! So I have to make sure my wireframes are named appropriately in advance or I have to start all over?
- Also, regarding names... if I upload a screenshot as "Edit page - selection made" ... if there happens to be another page in the same document with the same name it AUTOMATICALLY replaced the other one, showing no change/feedback or warning, and permanently erases that old screen.
So in short...
- Let me increase the previews to say... two screens per row
- Let me order them in order ADDED
- append "(2)" if I happen to add a screen with the same name as an older screen
- let me add a set to the top of the list
one last thing... when I click SHARE... a "helper modal" pops up telling me about how you can now share a selection of screens (something I could always do by just putting them in their own set) - and even if I say "Got it" or "Learn More" it does not dismiss itself. It appears every time, right on top of the copy button for the password.
I know this all sounds super harsh, but I've been using the new UI for what, a month or two now? and there are just so many glaring and obvious issues that, as a designer, a UX designer in particular, I can't help but feel the need to point all this out. Maybe I'm a unique user and no one like me was tested on. Who knows.... But I hope all this helps to guide the next version and hopefully helps those like me have a better experience. I just don't know how a system built specifically to design and test for better user experiences can have SUCH wacky and obvious interactivity issues...
Thank you for listening to me complain :)
Thanks

I wanted to add to this that... when I'm selecting screens to delete / archive, they all go black... so I essentially can't tell the difference between them unless I've gone and renamed what could be anywhere from 2 to 20 screens. I want to be able to see my screen preview well enough that I can tell that one doesn't have a drop down show, and one does. Reminder that drop downs are usually only a FRACTION of the total screen size, so if the thumbnail is only 200 x 200 pixels, it's already difficult to see, not to mention when you add a dark skrim to the pages. No I really can't tell the difference. It's probably good practice or whatnot to name your screens appropriately, but often, I just don't have time for that. I need to throw them in there, have them be in the right order (matching the order of when I took the screenshots) and then link them together in build mode quickly, and then share them and get on with my next item. It could add anywhere from 15 min to an hour or two to have to solve for these issues.
Please consider this use case. Not everyone is meticulously naming screens in order to be able to identify them correctly when adding or deleting them.
Also, why are none of the controls in the list available when viewing a screen? (Delete and archive at the very least)? This would solve the problem I'm having above in most cases. I just don't understand why this isn't possible or even thought of in the past.

Update that drop downs are generally just a Negligible part of the all out screen size, so assuming the thumbnail is just 200 x 200 pixels, it's as of now hard to see, also when you add a dull skrim to the pages. I can't really tell the difference, no. It's most likely great practice or whatnot to name your screens properly, however frequently, I simply lack the capacity to deal with that. I want to toss them in there, have them be properly aligned (the request for when I took the screen captures) and afterward connect them together in form mode rapidly, and afterward share them and continue ahead with my next thing. Having to resolve these issues could take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour or two more.
If it's not too much trouble, consider this apk utilization case. Not every person is fastidiously naming screens to have the option to recognize them accurately while adding or erasing them.
